What is said in the Therapy Room, stays in the Therapy Room
Registered Massage Therapists are bound by Therapist - Client confidentiality.
It is one of the cornerstones of our profession. Confidentiality is also one of the most important advantages that RMT’s have over “masseuses”, non-registereds or non-professionals.
We are regulated and insured. RMT’s cannot divulge anything that you tell them while in their care. We are only allowed to break that confidentiality if we are legally ordered to do so.

Is this your first massage?
Here are some tips on how to recover and to ensure you get the maximum benefit from a treatment, and help the body as it begins its Self Healing Process.

The Day of your Massage
Minimise your 'to do list' before and after the massage, so that you are calm and relaxed.
You don't want to arrive breathless, and feeling over stressed.
Neither do you want to lie there thinking of all the things you have after to do after your treatment is over.
Take time out afterwards so that the healing process can continue off the massage table. Ideally take the day off.

Your modesty is protected at all times
To respect your modesty we will leave the room while you undress; and after the massage we will give you time to slowly get up and get dressed in privacy.
Plus, during the massage only parts of your body that are being worked on will be uncovered.

During the massage
Massage works best if you are relaxed
Pay attention to your breathing and make sure it is deep and steady.
It's better not to chat too much!
This is YOUR free time to completely unwind and slow down your mind and breathing.

Drink plenty of water!
Increase the amount of water you drink over the next few days because massage increases the flow of blood around your body and will release any toxins that need to flushed out. Keep yourself hydrated and avoid alcohol for the next 24 hours.
Reduce your caffeine intake... coffee, tea, colas
Rest Up and allow your body to enjoy the benefits of your massage and above all, be kind to yourself for a couple of days especially if it has been a long time since your last massage or if your muscles were very stressed.
You should feel better after a massage. However, you may experience some of the following...
Sleepiness due to release of toxins (lactic acid in your muscles) encouraged by the treatment and the initiation of healing energies, which will require the body to rest.
Muscular ache and/or headaches as the nerve fibres respond to the work undertaken.
Heightened emotional state due to the positive release of deep-held feelings and emotions.
Frequent urination due to stimulation of the lymphatic system
Active bowels
Spots may occur - released toxins and hormones may surface through the skin, especially if you previously suppressed your skin condition.
Muscular aches can last for up to a couple of days after the massage depending on the condition of the muscles in the first place (really stressed muscles will often take a couple of days to settle).
It's as though your muscles have had a workout, without you having to do ay of the hard work!
The possible symptoms you may experience are absolutely normal and will subside within 12-48 hours.

The Benefits of Regular Treatment
Most importantly, please follow up with another massage as soon as possible because the closer the visits are to one another the better the body responds and the faster you will feel better.
Monthly is a good rule of thumb.
However, if you have a particular issue and area of stress, try to come regularly ~ weekly or fortnightly ~ until the problem has eased, and then follow up with monthly maintenance thereafter.
